Cadbury the chinchilla is a rare violet velvet chinchilla colour mutation who was born on 3rd June 1999. His mum was a beige chin and his dad was a standard grey colour.
For Cadbury to be a violet velvet, both his parents needed to carry the violet gene. Obviously they did!
He is called Cadbury because of his violet colour. This is because Cadbury's chocolate comes in purple wrappers. It took me a while to come up with a name that was related to his colouring yet didn't sound too 'girlie'.
Cadbury is a very clever chinchilla, as he recognises his own name and is beginning to understand "hello" and "goodbye".
Cadbury has some very unusual characteristics. One being that his brother, who is also a violet velvet, chewed his ears when he was younger, so he has tiny holes in each one. He also has an extra toe on his left front foot. This is because he is a colour mutation. His extra toe has no bad effects on him living a normal chinchilla life.
It is because of these characteristics that I now have him as my chinchilla, because the rest of his family are used for shows and competitions. The chinchilla breeder that he came from didn't even name any of his chins because he had too many. Cadbury has a better life living with me!!!
Cadbury's favourite treats are jumbo raisins, of which he has one every day and he also loves to have a slice of apple. Apparently chinchillas cannot over eat but too many of his favourite treats could still make him fat!!! . |
